Unemployment Rate Drops

Sonora, CA — There was another slight dip in the unemployment rate last month both locally and statewide.


The California Employment Development Department reports that the state unemployment rate fell to 9.4% in March, down from 9.6% in February. Tuolumne County’s rate dipped to 10.7% in March, compared to 11.1% the month prior. Calaveras County’s rate was 11.9% in March, and 12.5% in February.


Statewide, categories that added jobs include construction, information, financial services, education and government. Sectors that posted declines include mining, logging, manufacturing and trade.


The National Unemployment rate is 7.6%.
