Double Fatal Crash Investigation

Two people were tragically killed in a crash yesterday afternoon on Highway 49 near Fraguero Road.

The CHP says 57-year-old Laura Zaum of Jamestown allowed her 2005 Toyota to drift into the opposing traffic lane and hit a 1995 Buick head-on. The two people in the Buick were killed. Their names have not been released. Zaum was taken by air ambulance to a hospital in Modesto. The only passenger in her vehicle, 18-year-old Lucas Miller of Sonora, was taken to Sonora Regional Medical Center to treat minor injuries. It is not known what caused Zaum to drift into the opposing lane. The crash is still under investigation. It happened shortly before 3:30pm.
