Names Released In HWY 12 Crash

Valley Springs, CA — The CHP reports speed was to blame for a car versus pole crash in Calaveras County. It happened yesterday around two in the afternoon on Highway 12 and the intersection of Double Springs Road between Valley Springs and San Andreas.

The CHP reports 19 year old Austin Greenough of Valley Springs was driving a 65 Chevy eastbound on Double Springs Road when the accident happened. They say due to his speed he lost control of the car at a dip in the road. The car went off the roadway and crashed into a fence and then a telephone poll.

18 year old Justin Jarris of Valley Springs, a passenger in the car, suffered major injuries and was flown to U.C. Davis Medical Center in Sacramento. Two other passengers, 19 year old Austin Rowe and 15 year old Charles Sims, both of Valley Springs, were not injured in the wreck.

Double Springs Road was closed down for about 10 minutes. AT & T was called to the scene to repair the pole. Click here for a map of the crash site.
