Funding Coming For Highway 49 Project

Sonora, CA — Caltrans announces that $54-million in funding was recently allocated for projects across the state, and a chunk will be coming to the region.

$1.1-million is going to help repave and improve a stretch of Highway 49 in Mariposa County. Caltrans is eventually hoping to repave 35 miles of Highway 49 between the intersection of Highway 140 and the Mariposa/Madera county line, and the total price tag is $19.8-million. Caltrans notes that Highway 49, also known as the Golden Chain Highway, is a vital Sierra Nevada connector, which also locally travels through Tuolumne, Calaveras and Amador counties.

The $54-million allocated comes from revenues collected as part of the SB 1 gas tax increase.
