Update: Winter Storm Warning

The Winter Storm Warning for the Mother Lode above 1,500 feet and the Sierra Nevada remains effective until 4 PM this afternoon.

The snow levels will continue to lower at times down to 750 feet.

Accumulating snow could occur at the 1,000 foot elevation, with several inches possible.

Three to seven inches of additional snow accumulation is likely above 1,500 feet.

Wind gusts up to seventy mph will continue over the higher peaks, exposed ridges and the crest of the Sierra.

There are dangerous wind chill temperatures in the mountains, as cold as 25 below zero. Wind chills at those levels could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as thirty minutes.

A Winter Storm Warning for snow means there will be snow covered roads and limited visibilities. Travel is not recommended while the warning is in effect. If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.
