New Information Regarding Fatal Crash On HWY 108

Sonora, CA — While the CHP has not yet revealed the victim’s name, details surrounding a fatal Highway 108 wreck that backed up traffic in both directions this morning have been released — including a cause.

As earlier reported here, the car versus logging truck crash happened at 7:05 am on the highway just west of the Stockton Road intersection in Sonora. CHP spokesperson Faustino Pulido reports that 25-year-old Tyler Hughes of Wallace was eastbound behind the wheel of a loaded logging truck when a 1996 Honda Civic directly in front of him went off the roadway. Pulido adds that it is unclear as to why the driver, a 34 year old woman from Sonora, drove onto the right shoulder and then immediately initiated a U-turn directly into Hughes path. The semi smashed into driver’s side of the car. The woman died from her injuries at the scene. Hughes was not hurt.

Pulido conveys that alcohol and/or drugs are not suspected to have played a role in the crash, which remains under investigation. The release of the woman’s name is pending notification of family.
