Update: Soda Fire In Stanislaus National Forest Moving Slowly

Update at 12:25pm: Stanislaus National Forest Fire Chief Dave Updike reports that the latest size estimate on the Soda Fire remains 10.3 acres. There is a helicopter with a 22-person crew assigned to the incident. The fire is “creeping and smoldering,” according to Updike. The spread potential is low, and there remains no structures threatened by the fire.

Original story posted at 6:15am: Tuolumne County, CA — A fire burning in an isolated area of the Stanislaus National Forest is up to 10.3 acres and it is burning in slash, heavy timber and duff.

There are no structures considered at risk. The so-called Soda Fire is three miles east of Relief Reservoir in Soda Canyon and two miles northeast of Relief Peak. Forest Service Helicopter 520 is assigned to the incident. There are no evacuations of any kind and what ignited the fire remains under investigation.
