DUI Suspected In Overnight Crash

Groveland, CA – An early morning solo-vehicle wreck involved a Groveland teen who had to be flown from the scene with serious injuries may be alcohol related, according to the CHP.

The crash on Ferretti Road, west of Lumsden Road, in Groveland was reported to dispatch around 1:37 a.m. When officers arrived on the scene they found an overturned 2012 Volkswagen Passat about 40 feet down an embankment. Behind the wheel was a 17-year-old female from Groveland; the only occupant in the car. CHP spokesperson Faustino Pulido details, “While coming out of a right hand curve in the roadway, she allowed the vehicle to cross over the opposite side of the road and ran off the south road edge.  The vehicle struck several trees and overturned, coming to rest on its roof.”

The driver was pinned in the vehicle and had to be freed from the wreckage.  She was flown from the scene to a Modesto hospital where she is being treated for major injuries.  Pulido relays that her name is not being released as she is a minor. He adds, “Alcohol is suspected to have been a factor in this collision.”
