Tuolumne County Grand Jury Releases 2018 Report

Sonora, CA — The Tuolumne County Grand Jury made recommendations this year regarding conditions at the Sierra Conservation Center, operations of the Tuolumne County Economic Development Authority and conduct of the Groveland Community Services District, among others.

The citizen Grand Jury annually investigates complaints made regarding local government and decides whether to make recommendations.

For the Tuolumne County Economic Development Authority, it recommends that a Business Support Guide be developed because there is an inconsistent awareness of the TCEDA and the services offered. The Grand Jury also argues that the county auditor should retain an independent firm to conduct a management audit of the TCEDA operating policies and practices.  It also asks for County Counsel to conduct a review of TCEDA board members for conflict of interest as many serve on various boards.

In relation to the Sierra Conservation Center, it recommends remedying mold and deteriorating paint issues in one of the buildings and installing a soap dispenser in a specific area currently without one.

For the Groveland Community Services District, it asks that policies be developed and enforced related to orderly conduct by board members at meetings. It also calls for a whistle blower program to protect the confidentiality of staff members and the public.

This is a quick snapshot of the 183 page report. Other entities that were reviewed include the jail, juvenile hall and roads.  You can read the full report here.
