New Details Released On HWY 49 Crash

Columbia, CA – The CHP has released the name and further details related to a solo-vehicle rollover crash that held up traffic along Highway 49 on Tuesday afternoon, as reported here.

The driver, 63-year-old Marianne Gates of Vallecito was driving a 2001 Mercedes Benz C320 northbound on the highway around 1:15 p.m. when she drifted off the roadway. The CHP reports that when the vehicle hit the dirt shoulder Gates over corrected by turning the wheel to the left and losing control of the sedan. The vehicle shot across the double-yellow lines off the roadway and then down a steep embankment while overturning several times. The vehicle came to rest on the driver’s side.

Gates was taken to Adventist Health Sonora suffering moderate injuries. The CHP reports that neither alcohol nor drugs are suspected to have played a role in the crash.
