Update: HWY 49 Completely Reopens After Crash

Update at 2:35 p.m.: The CHP reports the wreckage and debris has  been removed and traffic is moving freely once again on Highway 49 after a solo-vehicle crash near Springfield Road in the Columbia area. One person suffered major injuries in the wreck that had officers directing one-way traffic for about an hour.

Original post at 1:55 p.m.: Columbia, CA — A major injury crash on Highway 49 is slowing traffic near the Columbia area.

The CHP reports that a vehicle went off the roadway and plunged 50 feet down an embankment near Springfield Road. The northbound lane of the highway is closed as officers are directing one-way traffic. The CHP is asking that motorists avoid the area if possible as traffic is getting backed up.
