Update: Twain Harte Lake Closed This Memorial Day

Update at 1pm: Twain Harte Community Services District General Manager Tom Trott reports the closure of Twain Harte Lake came after 30 gallons of wastewater went into a drain near the lake. It was due to a resident’s private sewer lateral backing up (sewer line that extends from a house to the property line). The spill was located this morning and quickly cleaned up by the district. Water samples have been collected to determine whether the lake’s water is safe, and the results will be known in 24-48 hours. The lake will remain closed until the water is deemed safe for human contact.

Original story posted at 12:30pm: Twain Harte, CA — Those visiting Twain Harte Lake today will notice a sign stating that it is “closed until further notice.”

The Twain Harte Lake Association reports on its website, “There has been a small sewer leak across the street from the main entrance to the lake and without knowing how much may have leaked into the lake we are taking all precautions until we know more about the condition of our water.”

The association adds that it is working with the Twain Harte Community Services District who is testing the water and will let the group know when it is all clear to resume operations.

We’ll pass along more information when it becomes available.
