Update: Sewage Leak Near Sullivan Creek Prompts Health Warning

Update at 7:53pm: Upon further investigation, the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office now reports the raw sewage that spilled today did not reach Sullivan Creek. As a precaution, the public is still advised not to swim, drink, fish or carry out any recreational activities near or in the water. You should avoid the Sullivan Creek drainage, west of Crystal Falls subdivision, until further notice, according to the sheriff’s office.

Original story posted at 7pm: Sonora, CA — Emergency officials are cleaning up near Sullivan Creek after a septic tank dumped raw sewage.

The Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office reports the source of the leak is near the intersection of Phoenix Lake Road and Creekside Drive. From there, Sullivan Creek runs west alongside Phoenix Lake Road. The Tuolumne County Public Health Department is urging everyone to avoid touching the water in the creek until further notice.

Health officials are responding to the scene, along with CAL Fire, the Department of Fish and Wildlife and the Tuolumne County Office of Emergency Services.
