Sonora, CA — With new state funding coming to Tuolumne County to battle the tree mortality epidemic, $420,400 was placed into the county’s reserve fund.
At today’s board of supervisors meeting, it was noted that just over $420,000 had been set aside and available to cover a 25-percent local match required for available California Disaster Assistance Act tree mortality funding. However, CAL Fire’s leadership team recently announced that $6-million was approved in the Governor’s budget to serve as matching funds for 10 high hazard counties. Tuolumne County’s share from that pot will be just over $806,000.
Board Chair Sherri Brennan praised county staff, and supervisor Randy Hanvelt, for leading the local tree mortality response, and helping to secure the money. She added, ”This really is a tribute to the tremendous effort that Tuolumne County has put on.”
The board voted 5-0 to place the $420,000 in earlier tentative matching funding into the general reserve fund, bringing the county’s reserve balance to $2,049,914.
