Update: Crash On HWY 49 Shuts Down Roadway

Update at 1:45 p.m.: The CHP is reporting major injuries in a fiery head on crash on Highway 49 near Columbia. The accident occurred just before 1 p.m. at the Springfield Road intersection.  It blocked the roadway for more than half an hour this afternoon as tow crews worked to remove the wreckage. (Further details on the collision are below.)

Original post at 1:20 p.m.: Columbia, CA — Emergency responders are on the scene of a head-on crash along Highway 49 at the Springfield Road intersection near the Columbia area.

The CHP reports the wreckage is blocking the entire roadway and one of the vehicles has caught on fire. Additionally, gas has spilled onto the roadway near that vehicle. Two tow crews have arrived on the scene and the CHP hopes to begin one-way traffic control shortly. There are no details on injuries.
