No Butts About It, November 16th Is The Great American Smokeout

Sonora, CA — Thursday (Nov. 16th) is the “Great American Smokeout” event and county health officials are challenging smokers to quit for the day and in turn smokers will get free help to kick the habit for good.

Past Tuolumne County Health Reports found cigarette smoking rates in the county were one of the highest in California and that the foothill region has higher rates of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and cancer than the state average. The American Cancer Society and county health department’s Tobacco Education & Prevention program are providing free “Quit Smoking” and “Quit Chew Tobacco” kits at the department’s office located at  20111 Cedar Road North in Sonora from 8 a.m.to 5 p.m. It also offers quit smoking kits for the work place. For additional information on the county’s Tobacco Education and Prevention Program call (209) 533-7419.

The state also provides help to quit smoking with the California Smoker’s Helpline: 1-800-NO-BUTTS. Further details on the smokeout event can be found by clicking here.
