Update at 3:45 p.m.: The CHP has released the name of a Sonora woman killed in a solo vehicle crash early this morning on Highway 108 near Bald Mountain Heliport Road. She is 23-year-old Felicia Rodriguez. Her name was being with held pending notification of family. (See below for details regarding the crash.)
Original post at 10:30 p.m.: Tuolumne County, CA — An unidentified 23-year-old female from Sonora tragically died in a crash early this morning on Highway 108 near Bald Mountain Heliport Road.
The CHP reports that she was driving a 2004 Chevy Silverado westbound on Highway 108 when she failed to negotiate a curve, overturning twice, and hitting a pine tree in the center median. It happened at 1:25am. The Sonora woman was pronounced dead at the scene, and a 32-year-old male passenger from Knights Ferry suffered “major injuries” and was transported to Adventist Health Sonora.
CHP Officer Faustino Pulido notes that details regarding the incident are still under investigation. He notes that alcohol is “suspected as being a factor” in the crash. An autopsy is pending.
