Luc’s Run Raises Over $20,000 For Scholarships

Tuolumne, CA — On Saturday over $20,000 was raised at the 4th annual Luc’s Run held in downtown Tuolumne.

This year’s run featured 183 participants at the local event in Tuolumne and an additional 250 runners that participated in virtual runs from locations all over the world.  All proceeds will fund scholarships given out by the Major Lucas Gruenther Legacy Foundation.

The foundation’s scholarship program provides an annual scholarship to a graduating senior from Summerville High School, four scholarships to family members of fallen military members, and three “Pursue Your Passion” scholarships to Americans that are pursuing excellence in areas outside of the traditional educational realm.

A youth run got underway at 8am. It was followed by an opening ceremony featuring comments by Luc’s mother Romel and his widow Cassy. They remembered his zest for life, and encouraged everyone to “Live Like Luc.” Gruenther, an Air Force pilot, and Tuolumne County native, passed away during a training exercise in 2013. He was also a very talented photographer, and his work was a part of the morning’s silent auction. Additional work will be available for view through June 11 at the Ventana Art Gallery in downtown Sonora.

A 10K and two-mile run started at 9am. The overall winner of the 10K was 13-year old Adin Dibble of Sonora and the winner of the 2-mile race was 12-year old Sarah Azevedo of Twain Harte.
