CHP Identifies Man Killed In Calaveras County Crash

Calaveras County, CA — A Glencoe man was killed in Tuesday’s fatal accident on Highway 26.

The CHP reports that it happened at 1:48pm, just west of Stormy Lane. 57-year-old Dale Gundy was driving eastbound in his 2003 Mercedes Benz on Highway 26 and drifted into the opposing traffic lane. Gundy collided head-on with a 2014 Dodge Ram truck driven by Carlos Medina of Shingle Springs. Medina, and his lone passenger, Bryce Battershell of Mariposa, were able to escape before both vehicles caught on fire. Medina and Battershell were not injured in the incident, but Gundy was pronounced dead at the scene by arriving officials. The fire spread to some nearby grass, and it was contained by firefighters.
