Permits Now Required For Burning

Sonora, CA — Effective eight o’clock this morning, burn permits are now required within the CAL Fire state responsibility areas of Tuolumne and Calaveras counties.

Burn permit terms include limiting pile size to a maximum four feet in diameter and four feet high. In addition, clearing is required down to bare mineral soil, 10 feet from the outer edges of burn piles. Outdoor burning may be done only on permissive burn days.

CAL Fire Tuolumne-Calaveras Unit (TCU) Chief Josh White reminds, “Getting your property ready for the coming fire season by creating and maintaining 100 feet of defensible space around all structures is an excellent way to protect not only your home, but your neighborhood and community as well.”

Burn permits are available at CAL Fire stations.
