County Historian De Ferrari Passes Away

Sonora, CA — Tuolumne County native son, and official historian, Carlo De Ferrari has died.

The Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home, which is handling the arrangements, reports that De Ferrari passed away this past Friday at the Alexander Cohen Hospice House in Hughson. He was 93 years old. A private family service is being planned and interment will be at his family’s plot in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Groveland.

In 1972 the Tuolumne County Board of Supervisors bestowed De Ferrari as the “official historian of Tuolumne County” in recognition of his extensive knowledge of local history and dedication to its preservation. The Carlo De Ferrari Archive, located behind the main Sonora library on Greenley Road, is named in his honor. He has written many books on Tuolumne County’s history. De Ferrari was also a former Tuolumne County Clerk and Auditor Controller.
