Traffic Alert In Sonora

Sonora, CA – Underground utility work will shut down a section of Stewart Street in Sonora to motorists and pedestrians next week.

Matt Burgess Construction is doing the work which will close off South Stewart Street between Lytton and Williams streets from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday through Friday. Crews will be digging up the pavement across the street during the day to make the repairs and then back filling dirt into the hole and covering it so the roadway can be reopened to traffic overnight. Additionally, sidewalks will also be closed to pedestrian traffic.

The project is expected to take three days, but company officials say if they are close to being done by the end of the second day the roadway may remain closed into the night until the work is complete.

Alternative routes suggested are Washington and Shepherd streets.
