Hit And Run Crash Seriously Injures Pedestrian

San Andreas, CA — A San Andreas man is lucky to be alive after being run over while crossing Highway 49 — now the CHP is asking for the public’s help to find the driver.

The CHP reports 74-year-old Karl Kerstan was struck while in the crosswalk on Highway 49 north of California Street on Monday just before 2 p.m. Kerstan told officers that the vehicle started slowing down so he thought it was safe to cross but instead the car hit him and took off heading south.

Kerstan sustained major injuries and was taken to Mark Twain Medical Center. Officer Toby Butzler reports that Kerstan is expected to survive. He describes the vehicle as a black or gray colored sedan, but unfortunately witnesses did not get a license plate number or a look at the driver. Anyone with information is asked to call the San Andreas Unit of the CHP at 209-754-3541.
