SAF Awards Over $48,000 In Grants

Sonora, CA – The Sonora Area Foundation is awarding money to help disperse food to those in need, to preserve history and to help emergency responders.

At its October meeting, the Board of Directors voted to award $25,000 to the ATCAA Food Bank to cover a 25% match for a USDA Community Facilities Grant. The USDA is awarding $75,000 for the purchase of a new refrigeration truck. The equipment will help ATCAA in the goal of increasing the availability of healthy and fresh foods.

A grant of $12,000 is going to the Carlo M. DeFerrari Archive to complete the first phase of a project to digitalize 450 rolls of newspaper to microfilm. The conversion of these microfilms to a keyword searchable digital format will benefit students, genealogists, historic researchers and the general public.

The Mi-Wuk Sugar Pine Fire Protection District is receiving over $11,800 to purchase a chest compression system for patients requiring CPR. The foundation reports the system leverages the latest in technology to provide consistent, reliable and safe chest compressions for a person whose heart has stopped beating.  With the system stationed at the Mi- Wuk Sugar Pine fire station, it will be available for dispatch along the upper Highway 108 corridor.
