Fatal Crash On Hwy 108

Twain Harte, CA — The CHP reports one person was pronounced dead at the scene of the two-vehicle wreck on Highway 108 in the Twain Harte area, while another was flown from the scene suffering major injuries.

The accident happened just before 10 a.m. Saturday at the lower entrance to Twain Harte.  The CHP reports a 66-year-old-driver from Tuolumne in a 2003 GMC Yukon was headed eastbound on the highway. For unknown reasons, the driver of the Yukon turned directly in front of a 1989 Toyota pickup  registered out of Cold Srings. The vehicles collided blocking one of the westbound lanes.

A 73-year-old passenger in the pickup died at the scene. The 63-year-old driver suffered major injuries and was flown to a Modesto hospital.  The driver of the Yukon sustained minor injuries.

Officers directed one-way traffic control for about an hour. The CHP reports drugs or alcohol were not a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.
