Kayaker Dies Near Groveland

Groveland, CA — A 35 year old man from Oregon tragically died in a kayaking accident in Tuolumne County over the weekend.

The man and a group of friends hiked to the Cherry Bomb Gorge at Cherry Creek in the Groveland area on Sunday. The group started down the rapids on their kayaks and one overturned. Friends pulled the man out of the water but he was unconscious. A nearby kayaker called for help using a satellite phone. The Tuolumne Search and Rescue Team responded, as well as the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office helicopter. Upon arrival, the man was determined to be deceased. He was flown to Columbia Airport where the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office Coroner awaited his arrival. He has been identified as Logan Farrell of Portland.
