County Moves Towards Buying Jimtown Frosty Property

Jamestown, CA — In anticipation of long-planned improvements to the Rawhide Road Bridge in Jamestown, the Tuolumne County Board of Supervisors is planning to purchase the nearby property that houses the Jimtown Frosty.

We reported two weeks ago that the project has been in development since the 1990’s and has experienced several delays.

It was noted at today’s board meeting that the Jimtown Frosty property is in default of payment of taxes and is scheduled to go up for public auction on May 6th by the county’s tax collector. The county voted this morning to object to the sale so that it can be purchased at a much lower price. If the county went through a typical appraisal process to purchase the land it could cost upwards of $100,000, but only paying the amount defaulted will cost $40,186. There are still additional steps to be taken, including final approval by the state’s controller.

The Supervisors voted unanimously to move in this direction by objecting to the sale, approving the purchase of the property, and authorizing the board chair to sign the agreement.
