Murphys Man Eluding PD Spurs Three-Vehicle Crash

Murphys, CA — A Murphys man suffered major injuries after he caused a crash while being chased by an Angels Camp Police officer.

The California Highway Patrol reports that 36-year-old Wyitt Carroll of Murphys was involved in a brief high speed chase at 8:25pm Wednesday on Highway 49 near Deer Creek Road. The CHP reports that an officer attempted to pull over Carroll, but he refused the order. Carroll proceeded to collide with the rear of a 2015 Ford F250 that was traveling in front of him. The truck, driven by 41-year-old Leslie Rhinehart of Pine Grove, safely slowed down and stopped along the highway shoulder. However, Carroll’s 2013 Chrysler 300 spun around, and then collided with an oncoming 2012 Ford F550 driven by 54-year-old David Pierce of Mokelumne Hill.

Carroll was transported to Memorial Medical Center in Modesto to treat major injuries. He was also cited for suspicion of DUI. Both Rhinehart and Pierce reported minor injuries.
