Solo Crash Nabs Another Driver For DUI

Angels Camp, CA – A man was arrested for DUI while at the scene of a solo crash on Highway 4 but he was not behind the wheel of the vehicle involved in the wreck.

The CHP reports an SUV was involved in a rollover crash that happened around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday on the highway north of Angels Camp. The wreckage completely blocked the roadway forcing officers to redirect traffic for about 30 minutes. It was during that time that a woman alerted officers about a possible drunk driver in the line of stopped vehicles. She told officers she was behind the vehicle, which had been swerving all over the roadway.  Officer Toby Butzler says, “Once they [officers] contacted him in his vehicle, they observed some objective signs of intoxication. They got him out of the vehicle, did a litany of tests and determined he was drunk.”

Officers arrested 31-year-old Charles Barrett of Santa Rosa. The driver involved in the SUV crash was not injured.
