Decision Coming On Columbia Dollar General

Columbia, CA — A special evening Tuolumne County Board of Supervisors meeting is coming up on Tuesday and only one item is on the agenda.

The Board will hear an appeal over the Tuolumne County Planning Commission’s denial of plans for a Columbia Dollar General Store. On December 16 the commission voted 5-2 against issuing a conditional use permit and site permit for the roughly 9,100 sq. ft. retail store. Over 50 people came up and spoke against the planned project, while only a handful voiced up in favor. There were concerns raised about increased traffic and the number of similar type stores already in the county.

Anticipating a large crowd, the supervisors will hold the meeting at the Columbia Elementary School Gymnasium, starting at 6 p.m. The supervisors plan to make a decision on the project Tuesday night after hearing additional feedback from anyone wishing to speak for or against the project.
