Truck Vs. Bridge In Calaveras County

San Andreas, CA — The CHP reports a truck left a path of destruction after it crashed through a bridge railing and smashed into a creek bed below south of San Andreas.

The wreck happened around 5:40 Wednesday on Highway 49 south of near Fourth Crossing Road and south of the Calaveras County Airport. The CHP reports 24-year-old Joseph Viel of Murphys driving a 2001 Dodge Ram pickup was heading southbound on the highway when for unknown reasons he crossed into the oncoming traffic lane and struck a wood and concrete bridge railing. The truck ripped through the guardrail and plummeted about 15 feet below into the San Antonio Creek below.

Viel suffered minor injuries and refused medical treatment. The CHP reports neither alcohol nor drugs were a factor in the collision.
