American Lung Association Ranks Mother Lode Low In Rankings

Sonora, CA — The American Lung Association has released its annual report card for cities and counties related to tobacco policies.

Municipalities are given grades between A-F based on programs in place to reduce the sales of tobacco products, promoting smokefree housing and living areas, and pushing for no smoking at outdoor events and public areas. Among the state’s largest cities, Los Angeles received a C, San Diego a D, San Jose a B, San Francisco a B, Fresno an F and Sacramento a C.

The Mother Lode did not fare very well with the American Lung Association, with both the City of Angels Camp and Calaveras County receiving an F. Tuolumne County received a D, as the report notes there are efforts to eliminate smoking at some public events and dining locations. However, the City of Sonora received an F.
