Property Taxes Paid?

Sonora, CA – The deadline for the first installment of Tuolumne County property taxes has passed and taxpayers who missed it face penalties – while another payment is just around the corner.

County property taxes were due on midnight Thursday and for those who neglected to pay there is no extension. County Treasure/Tax Collector Shelley Piech shares, “This is per the revenue and taxation code.” She adds that the payment was initially due on Nov. 1 with a grace period, which ran through Dec. 10. Failure to pay imposes a stiff 10% fine on the taxpayer and it goes up if the second installment deadline is missed. Piech explains, “It’s another 10% plus a ten dollar cost…At that point, if it’s not paid by June 30, it goes into a delinquent status and interest is applied at one and a half percent.”

The second installment is due February 1, 2016 with a delinquency date of April 10.
