CHP ID’s Victim In Strawberry Crash

Strawberry, CA — The CHP has released the name of the San Marcos man who died in a wreck near Strawberry.

Sadly, 74-year-old Edward P. Oneill III died after the 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee he was driving eastbound, went off the roadway for unknown reasons. The Jeep went rolling down an embankment smashing into several trees and boulders. Emergency officials pronounced Oneill dead at the scene.

As previously reported, the crash happened Monday at 4:40 p.m. on Highway 108 just west of George’s Drive in Tuolumne County. The lone passenger, 74-year-old Bill Liles Lewis II of Oceanside, suffered major injuries. He was flown to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto suffering a broken clavicle and abrasions, according to the CHP.

The CHP reports neither drugs nor alcohol played a role in the crash.
