Sonora City Council Meets Tonight

Sonora, CA — The Sonora City Council will hear a proposal calling for future concerts, and approve the work completed as part of the Washington Street overlay project.

The Washington Street project was completed throughout July and early August by George Reed Inc. On the Council’s agenda is to formally approve the work that was done, and sign off on the $834,527 in total expenses.

In addition, the Council will hear a presentation from the Sonora Chamber of Commerce about the idea of initiating a downtown summer concert series in 2016, and hear whether to city is interested in being a partner. The planned venues are the Mother Lode Fairgrounds and areas around downtown Sonora. They would run from June into September, and require around $80,000 to execute. The funding is needed for the bands, marketing, production, insurance, and management. City documents note that the proposal will likely be forwarded to the City’s finance committee for further review.

Also, the Second Saturday summer send-off dance scheduled for September 12th in Coffill Park was cancelled due to Butte Fire smoke, so the city will decide whether to issue a special use permit so that it can be held on October 10th at the same location.

Tonight’s meeting starts at 5pm at City Hall.
