CHP Investigating Fatal Highway 4 Crash

Murphys, CA — The California Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash that occurred Friday evening in Calaveras County.

An unidentified 67-year-old man from Los Altos was driving a 1976 Fiat on Highway 4 near Northwood Drive, in the Murphys area. The CHP says he lost control of the car while going into a curve, went off the highway and hit a tree. The driver was not wearing a seatbelt and suffered fatal injuries. It is unclear if drugs or alcohol were a contributing factor, according to the CHP. An investigation has been ongoing.
