Labor Day Weekend Drift Smoke

Sonora, CA — Heavy drift smoke is visible in areas of the Mother Lode this weekend due to a fire burning in the Sierra National Forest.

CAL Fire reports that the smoke is coming from the Rough Fire, east of Fresno. It is 85,894 acres and 31% contained. As a result of the firefighting strategy, the Forest Service expects heavy smoke in the region both Sunday and Monday. Over 1,900 firefighters are assigned to the incident. The Forest Service reports that the Rough Fire was ignited by a lightning strike back on July 31st. Several campgrounds near the fire area are closed.
