Calaveras County Supervisor’s Daughter Dies

Angels Camp, CA — Following an autopsy, no cause of death has yet been determined for the abrupt passing of a local lawmaker’s daughter, according to the Calaveras County coroner, who now awaits toxicology test results.

Michelle Ponte, 22, the daughter of District 4 Supervisor Debbie Ponte, who covers Angels Camp, Altaville, Salt Spring Valley and Copperopolis, died last Wednesday at her Angels Camp home. Calaveras County Coroner Kevin Raggio reports an autopsy completed last Friday established no cause of death.  However, he does not believe foul play was a factor in the daughter’s death. Instead Raggio says, “I suspect it to be an allergic reaction to a prescription drug most likely, but I don’t know if we will be able to know that for sure. At this point, we are waiting on toxicology results.”

Those results could take anywhere from four to six weeks, according to Raggio, who adds, the case remains under investigation, which “is a normal practice.”
