Asphalt Truck Dumps On Morning Commute

Copperopolis, CA – Some Mother Lode motorists faced delays on their morning commute after a dump truck lost part of its load.

The accident happened in Calaveras County near the Tuolumne County line on O’Byrnes Ferry Road at 6:19 a.m.  When CHP officers arrived on the scene, they found a Peterbilt dump truck off the roadway. The truck was pulling a transfer trailer that had flipped and its asphalt cargo had spilled out.  Officer Toby Butzler explains, “The truck was traveling southbound down O’Byrnes Ferry Road for an unknown reason the trailer overturned blocking one lane of traffic.”

Officers directed one-way traffic control for over two hours as a tow crew up righted the trailer and cleared the debris. There were no injuries and the crash remains under investigation, according to Butzler.  The southbound lane reopened to motorists at 8:39 a.m.
