Don Pedro Lake Has Water But No Fireworks

La Grange, CA – Despite the lingering drought conditions, Don Pedro Lake is open for fun, according to the Don Pedro Recreation Agency (DPRA).

DPRA Director Carol Russell says, “We have one launch ramp that will be in the water all summer long and that’s at Fleming Meadows.  At the current water elevation, there are 6,700 acres of surface area that people can go out on, and boat, fish and just have a good time.”

However, unfortunately, Russell adds the drought has extinguished the annual fireworks display.  “There’s insufficient fallout area on the reservoir due to the low water level so we will not be having a fireworks show this year…That’s something that folks have always looked forward to coming out to see since it is, basically, one of the only public fireworks shows in Tuolumne County.” Russell adds there will be another special event this year, as they will be celebrating National Marina Day in June.

Here is the agency’s list of the recreation areas and amenities at Don Pedro:

Fleming Meadows-

The very popular 2-acre swimming lagoon with picnic area including the on-site Snack Shack is open for business.  The ”Trading Post” Store, Group Picnic Area and all camping areas at Fleming Meadows are open as well for the summer and the concrete boat launch will be open the entire year.

Moccasin Point-

Full hook-up and tent campsites are available at Moccasin Point.  It is projected that shallow draft vessels will be able to launch at an alternative, low-water launch at Moccasin Point until approximately mid-June. The low water condition offers a unique opportunity to enjoy Moccasin Creek for wading and trout fishing where it now flows adjacent to the recreation area.  A camp store with ice, snacks, drinks and firewood is open on weekends to serve campers at Moccasin Point.

Blue Oaks-

Partial hook-up campsites and the group camp facility are open for the summer. Tent campsites are available for the holiday weekends and will be open at other times as needed. The Blue Oaks boat launch is closed but boat launching is available at Fleming Meadows, 1.8 miles down the road from Blue Oaks.

Special Events-

National Marina Day- Saturday, June 13.

Lake Don Pedro Marina will be celebrating National Marina Day, reminding visitors that Don Pedro is open for business and water oriented fun. Activities planned for the day include:
