State Bucks National Trend

San Francisco, CA — While national polls continue to show slightly more Americans disapproving of President Barack Obama’s performance, Californians do not follow suit.

A new Field Poll finds 53% of voters surveyed approve of the job the President is doing and 35% disapprove, an improvement from the 45% rating he got last fall in the state. Voters cited Obama’s handling of the nation’s economy and his efforts to reach a nuclear weapons agreement with Iran as the top reasons. However, 60% of voters, or six in ten and nearly 48% of registered Democrats included in that percentage, believe Congress should have a say and ability to reject any deal.

The Field Poll was conducted by telephone with 1,048 registered voters in six languages and dialects.
