Cougar Spotted In Sonora

Sonora, CA — A large cat has been sighted this morning off Racetrack Road.

A resident in the Gibbs Estate Subdivision spotted the nearly 120-pound cat outside his living room window around 8 o’clock this morning.  The man declined to give his name, but says the mountain lion walked around his home on the corner of Leland Drive and Redbud Road, and then disappeared into the brush.  While on the phone with myMotherLode.com, the cougar came back, the homeowner, clearly scared by what he was seeing described the scene, “I am face to face with him.  He is looking right at me.  All that’s between us is the glass in the sliding door.  This is too up close and personal!”

The man says he has seen tracks in his yard before, but never an actual mountain lion, until today.  The Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Department has been notified.  With past sightings, law enforcement has warned residents to keep small children and animals inside.

As reported just yesterday, in Calaveras County a cougar was seen in San Andreas Thursday around 10 p.m. Calaveras Sheriff’s officials put out an alert to the public stating the cat was last seen on Highway 49 by the Pickle Patch eatery near Pool Station Road.
