Celebrating Heart Month At ‘Heart Fest’

Sonora, CA – Today, Sonora Regional Medical Center is giving February American Heart Month a big send-out with its Heart Fest 2015, an all-ages heart health event.

Students from area schools attended in waves from 9 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Beckoning from across the room, the gently pulsing, super-sized inflatable LED-lit walk-though Mega Heart exhibit was main draw for many of the kids. An impressive 25 feet wide by 16 feet high by 13 feet wide, Lindsay Brewer, SRMC marketing director explains, “You can go through different areas of it and see different cardiovascular disease, different blood flows…it’s pretty impressive and [for] the kids, that’s their favorite part.”

Other attractions included interactive stations covering topics like healthy eating and smoking avoidance, with actual examples of nonsmoker and smoker lungs. Among the activities: healthy snack samplings, fitness activities with hula hoops, and coloring sessions of instructional heart health sheets.

The SRMC Heart Fest is happening through this evening at its temporary Education Center site, formerly Andy’s Home Center (900 Mono Way, Sonora). For adults, from 4 to 5 p.m. and again from 6 to 7 p.m., Brewer invites the public to drop in visit the booths and take advantage of the various free screenings available, as reported earlier.
