Drought Delays Mono Way Project

Sonora, CA — Motorists are already traveling on the five lanes of Mono Way, but the widening project’s completion has been put on hold due to the drought.

The project is 99% done, according to Sonora City Engineer Jerry Fuccillo, who says the final one percent of the project left to be finished has been stalled by the drought.  “We have deferred all of the landscaping and tree planting that we were going to do along the wall and in planter areas to next fall due to the dry conditions,” says Fuccillo.  “The reason is we can’t irrigate them and we shouldn’t be irrigating them with the drought going on.”

Next fall, according to Fuccillo, the situation will be re-evaluated in terms of the drought conditions and the landscaping could be delayed again.
