Forest Service Gives Stormy Weather Cautions

Stanislaus National Forest, CA — Stanislaus National Forest officials are warning visitors to take care on forestlands as storms blow in this weekend.

“We think they are going to deliver about 3 ½ to 4 inches of rain,” says Forest Service spokesperson Georgia Dempsey.  “With that amount of rain we do have some concerns with toppling trees and a potential for flash flooding.”

Dempsey reminds visitors that burn scars from recent major fires, like the Rim Fire, are leading areas of concern including for potential mud and rockslides. She says warning signs for flash flooding include a sudden change in water color from clear to a muddy brown or a rapid rise in water levels.
