Mariposa Thinning Project Receives Funding

Mariposa, CA — $139,000 will go towards a fuels reduction project in Mariposa County.

The project is designed to reduce the impacts that a catastrophic wildfire could have on Mariposa’s water quality. Fuelbreaks will be placed near the Stockton Creek Reservoir, which is the sole source of water for the Mariposa community, and it sits directly adjacent to the town.

The project will include mastication, trimming, hand removal, and other techniques to reduce the fuel load and fire danger. The funding will come from the State of California’s Sierra Nevada Conservancy.

The money was allocated earlier this week. The Agency also allocated money to projects in Nevada and Mono Counties.
