Awaiting a Report For Cause of Death

San Andreas, CA – There is no word yet on what caused the death of a Calaveras County Jail inmate that died in his cell.

As reported on Tuesday, 59-year-old Kelly Keel of West Point was found dead during a routine security check at 7:40 Monday morning.

Calaveras County Sheriff’s spokesperson Lt. Chris Hewitt says, “An autopsy has been completed, but we are waiting for the pathology report before the cause of death is released, which could take several weeks.”

Hewitt earlier reported that there was no sign of foul play.  Keel was behind bars for a November 28 assault, but Hewitt had no further details on his arrest.
