Art From Nature

Stanislaus National Forest, CA — Some Mother Lode residents are searching the forest floor today to find twigs to transform into their own works of art.

The artists learn how to bend, twist, and weave the branches together in a workshop put on by the Stanislaus National Forest.  It is part of the Artist in the Woods 2014 program.  Each year in the fall, two professional artists are selected to stay in a historic cabin at the Summit Ranger District.  All the artists have to do is donate an original piece of forest artwork and teach a public workshop during their stay.  Artist Wendy Klemperer uses twigs to create her art (as seen in the pictures to left).  Now, she is passing that knowledge on to others.

Forest Service spokesperson Veronica Garcia explains, “This helps the community become more involved and there are a lot of artists that use the forest to show their art.  This is just something to show the community that they can learn from the forest and also create art.”
