Update Big Trees Fire

Calaveras Big Trees Park, CA — Firefighters are getting a handle on containing the 3-acre fire, but Mother Nature is not helping with the battle.

The flames are near the South Grove of Calaveras Big Trees Park off Forest Road 5N07.  Cal Fire reports crews have a hose line around the flames, but the windy conditions are sparking spot fires outside that line.  There remains no word on how close the flames are to the big trees.

Update 4 p.m.: Cal Fire reports that a light rain swept through the area, but winds are still causing some spot fires.  Crews will remain on scene tonight and tomorrow moping up and checking for hot spots.
