Sonora, CA — PG&E customers will see their monthly bills increase by about $7.50 this fall.

It is part of a combined $2.4 billion rate hike that was approved by the California Public Utilities Commission. It was was approved by the commission yesterday, 5-0. The first part of the increase will take effect in September, and second part in October.

Similar rate increases will then follow in 2015 and 2016. PG&E reports the average monthly gas and electric bill is $129.

The Public Utilities Commission said the approval was based on PG&E’s need to improve the safety and reliability of its infrastructure.
